Australia is the main outlet for PNG gold: the PNG Chamber of Resources and Energy described the Perth Mint as the regional refining hub (May 2024), and PNG was Australia's largest gold import source in 2024 (US$2.49bn, about 38 t). PNG's own reported exports to Australia are a fraction of Australia's recorded imports.
