[16th July 2021] Supplement to Official Gazette 303 S.I. 51 of 2021 WILD ANIMALS AND BIRDS PROTECTION ACT (Cap 247) Wild Animals and Birds Protection (Bronze Gecko) Regulations, 2021 In exercise of the powers conferred by section 2 of the Wild Animals and Birds Protection Act, 1961, the Minister responsible for Environment makes the following Regulations — Citation 1. These regulations may be cited as the Wild Animals and Birds Protection (Bronze Gecko) Regulations, 2021. Interpretation 2. In these regulations, unless the context otherwise requires — “Act” means the Wild Animals and Birds Protection Act, (Cap 247); “Bronze Gecko” means a lizard species in the Gekkonidae family comprising of the following species; “ Ailuronyx seychellensis, Ailuronyx tachyscopeaus and Ailuronyxsp”.; Declaration of Bronze Gecko as protected 3. The Bronze Gecko is hereby declared protected. Prohibition 4. A person shall not — (a) purchase a bronze gecko; (b) control or have in his possession a Bronze Gecko; (c) convey, by any means, a Bronze Gecko; Ailuronyx trachygaster, 304 Supplement to Official Gazette [16th July 2021] (d) sell, offer or make exchanges for, a Bronze Gecko; (e) exhibit, or offer a Bronze Gecko for sale or exchange; (f) disturb, destroy, kill, capture, or cause a Bronze Gecko to be disturbed, destroyed, killed or captured; (g) export a living, preserved or stuffed Bronze Gecko. Offence 5. A person who contravenes regulation 4 commits an offence. Exception 6. Notwithstanding regulations 4 and 5, the Minister may by notice, allow a person to capture or export a living, preserved or stuffed Bronze Gecko — (a) for a scientific or conservation related purpose; or (b) for the purpose of shifting or relocating the Bronze Gecko, in the manner that the Minister directs, from an unnatural habitat to its natural habitat.
