S. I. N;o, 43 of 1976 THE TURTLES ORDINANCE (Chapter 141) The Green Turtles Protection Regulations, 1976. In exercise of the powers conferreq. by section 11 and 12 of the Turtles Ordinance the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food hereby makes the following regula tions : 1. These regulations may be cited as the Green Turtles Protection Regulations 1976 and shall apply throughout Seychelles. · 2. Save as otherwise provided in regulation 9 of these regulations, no person shall purchase, sell, exhibit for sale, export or be in possession of any male turtle, either alive or dead, or of the meat of a male turtle, of calipee and of other products of male turtles during the closed. season. 6. Save as otherwise pro ided in regulation 9 of these regulations, it shall be un wfnl for any person to be in possession of any form of urtfo meat which has been. pre served by salting: -~V ... Provi(jed that during he open season any person, other than a person referred o in regulation 7(2) of these regu lations, may have in h's possession, at any one time up to, but not more than, o kilograms of the meat of a male turtle which h as bee , preserved by salting and which meat is solely for his ow consumotion and not for sale or other commercial purpo !;l.~ . 7.-(1) The sale, serving or possession~of turtle meat or of a.q.y part or product of a male or'~f(!rtJ.aIJ'turtle on or off the premises of any hotel, guesthouse, restaurant or any place where food or drink is sold for consumption on or off the premises, is prohibited. (2) Any person who sells or causes to be sold or buys or causes to be bought or serves or consumes or posses ses turtle meat or any part or product of a male or female turtle in any place mentioned in paragraph (1) of this re gulation shall be guilty of an offence against these regu lations. 8. Save as otherwise provided in regulation 9 of these regulations no turtle, male or female, or any part or pro duct thereof may be exported from Seychelles. 9.--(1) The Mir,ister may grant to any person a special licence in writing authorising that person, his servants, or agents, to catch and rear turtles subject to such conditions ~s the Minister may think fit and the catching and rearing of turtles in accordance with a licence in force under this regulation shall be exempt from the operation of the fore going provision~· of these regulations. . ' . (2) A licence granted under this regulation may at any time be amended,: varied or revoked. .. . . " .... , ,, .. IO. Any person who contravenes the provisions of regu lations 3, 4,. 5,· 6, 7 or . 8 of these regulations or who con travenes ·.the .con4i,tions of any licence granted by the Minister'. um:ler the. provisions of regulation 9 shall be guilty of an. offence·,and liable to a fine of one thousand rupees and:to imprisonment for one year. 11. Any provision of the Ordinance or of any regulation made. thereunder which is contrary to or inconsistent with any provisions: of thes~ regulations shall stand suspended for such time as the latter provision remains in force. 12.
