INDEPENDENT STATE OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA. No. 4 of 1991. AN ACT entitled Slaughtering (Amendment} Act 1991, Being an Act to amend the Slaughtering Act (Chapter 238), MADE by the National Parliament to come into operation in accordance with a notice in the National Gazette by the Head of State, acting with, and in accordance with, the advice of the M111ister. 1. INTERPRETATION (AMENDMENT OF SECTION 1). Section 1 of the Principal Act is amended by - (a) inserting after the definition of "abattoir" the following new definition:- "'animals' means cattle, pigs, sheep, horses, deer, goats and buffalo;"; and (b) inserting after the definition of "central killing area" the following definition:- n'feral animal' means deer, or any animal which, in the opinion of a Meat Inspector, is not capable of being confined and is not, or is no longer, domesticated;". 2. REPEAL AND REPLACEMENT OF SECTION 7). Section 7 of the Principal Act is repealed and is replaced with the fol lowing:- "7. CENTRAL KILLING AREAS. The Minister may, by notice in the National Gazette, declare an area to be a central killing area in relation to a slaughterhouse.". 3. SLAUGHTER OF CATTLE FOR PRIVATE 0\,/NERS (AMENDMENT OF SECTION 9). Section 9 of the µr1nc1pal Act 1s amended in Subsection (1) by repealing the word "cattle'' (twice occurring) and replacing it in each case with the word "animals". Slaughtering (Amendment} 4. AGISTMENT (AMENDMENT OF SECTION 11). Section 11 of the Principal Act is amended by repealing the word "cattLe" and replacing it with the word "animals". 5. CONTROL OF SLAUGHTERING OF CATTLE (AMENDMENT OF SECTION 18). Section 18 of the Principdl Act is dmended - ( a) by repealing the word "cattle" (twice occurring) and replacing it in each case with the word "an ima 1 s" ; and ( h) by inserting after the words "human consumption" the words "through premises licensed under the Sale of Meat Act (Chapter ZJ7), ". 6. EMERGENCY SLAUGHTEllING (AMENDMENT OF SECTION 19) . Section 36 of the Principal Act is amended - (a) by inserting after the words "A person who" the following:- ", through premises 1 icensed under the Sale of Meat Act (Chapter 237),"; and (b) by repealing the word "cattle" (twice occurring) and Jeplacing it in each case with the word "animals".
