Proclamation to declare the Poudre D'or Fishing Reserve as a marine protected area and to designate it as a fishing reserve (No. 25 of 2000)

TO DECLARE THE POUDRE D'OR FISHING RESERVE AS A MARINE PROTECTED AREA AND TO DESIGNATE IT AS A FISHING RESERVE Proclamation No. 25 of 2000 TO DECLARE THE POUDRE D'OR FISHING RESERVE AS A MARINE PROTECTED AREA AND TO DESIGNATE IT AS A FISHING RESERVE CASSAM UTEEM President of the Republic CASSAM UTEEM – By Mr CASSAM UTEEM, Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean, President of the Republic of Mauritius. &C., &C., &C. WHEREAS by section 7(l) of the Fisheries and Marine Resources Act 1998, it is enacted to declare by Proclamation (a) an area of Mauritius waters including the seabed underlying such waters; (b) any land associated with Mauritius waters; or (c) any wetland, to be a Marine Protected Area. WHEREAS by section 7(2) of the Fisheries and Marine Resources Act 1998, it is enacted that a Marine Protected Area may be designated as (a) a Fishing Reserve; (b) a Marine Park; or (c) a Marine Reserve. WHEREAS the Poudre d’Or Fishing Reserve of an extent of about 2542 hectares stretches from Ile d’Ambre up to Pointe Roche Noire and is bounded as follows The limit starts at a point PDRL1 situated on the mainland shore opposite Ile d’Ambre having coordinates 1016445mE, 1017523mN and runs along an imaginary straight line in a south earterly direction up to point PDRL2 (1016934mE, 1017339mN) at Pte Courant on the shore of Ile d’Ambre. Thence the limit runs along the shore of Ile d’Ambre up to point PDRL3 (1018812mE, 1017311mN) at Pte Dejeuner. Thereafter, it runs along an imaginary straight line in a south easterly direction up to the point PDRL4 (1020828mE, 1015681mN) at the Southern side at Passe St. Géran, thence along the reef up to point PDRL5 (1022841mE, 1009924mN) at Pointe Roche Noire and finally it follows the High Water Mark along the mainland shore up to the starting point at PDRL1. WHEREAS the Poudre d’Or Fishing Reserve fulfills the conditions specified in the said Act. NOW, THEREFORE, by virtue of the said Act, I do hereby proclaim and declare the Poudre d’Or Fishing Reserve to be a Marine Protected Area and designate it as a Fishing Reserve to be known as the Poudre d’Or Fishing Reserve as from 1st July 2000.
