I, BRENDAN DALY, Minister of State at the Department of Finance, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 52 of the Wildlife Act, 1976 (No. 39 of 1976), the Wildlife (Transfer of Departmental Administration and Ministerial Functions) Order, 1987 ( S.I. No. 156 of 1987 ) and the Finance (Delegation of Ministerial Functions) Order, 1989 ( S.I. No. 201 of 1989 ), and after consultation with the Minister for Agriculture and Food and the Minister for the Marine, hereby make the following Regulations. 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Wildlife Act, 1976 , (Control of Importation of Wild Animals and Wild Birds) Regulations, 1989. 2. These Regulations shall come into operation on the 1st day of January, 1990. 3. Subject to Regulation 4 of these Regulations, the importation of a live wild animal, a live wild bird or the eggs or spawn of a wild animal or a wild bird of any species is hereby prohibited save under and in accordance with a licence granted by or on behalf of the Minister. 4. These Regulations shall not apply to live fish or the eggs or young of fish. GIVEN under my hand this 14th day of November, 1989. BRENDAN DALY, Minister of State at the Department of Finance. These regulations prohibit the importation of live wild animals or wild birds or their eggs or spawn except under licence issued by the Minister.
