No. 343/1998: DISEASES OF ANIMALS (CARRIAGE OF CATTLE BY SEA) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1998. DISEASES OF ANIMALS (CARRIAGE OF CATTLE BY SEA) (AMENDMENT) ORDER, 1998. I, JOE WALSH, Minister for Agriculture and Food, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by section 3 (2) of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (No. 6 of 1966), as adapted by the Agriculture, Food and Forestry (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of Minister) Order, 1997 ( S.I. No. 302 of 1997 ) hereby order as follows:— 1. (1) This Order may be cited as the Diseases of Animals (Carriage of Cattle by Sea) (Amendment) Order, 1998. (2) The Diseases of Animals (Carriage of Cattle by Sea) Order, 1996, and this Order may be cited together as the Diseases of Animals (Carriage of Cattle by Sea) Orders, 1996 and 1998. 2. This Order shall come into operation on the 16th day of September, 1998. 3. The Diseases of Animals (Carriage of Cattle by Sea) Order, 1996, ( S.I. No. 17 of 1996 ) is hereby amended by— (a) the insertion of the following sub-paragraph in Article 9(3) after subparagraph (b): "and (c) for vessels with a roll period of less than 15 seconds, the port of departure, intended port of destination and the sea route on which the vessel may carry livestock from Ireland.", (b) the deletion of the words "Forecast of" in the Heading of Article 13, Irish Statute Book file:///D/HTML/ire68992.htm[15.01.2025 17:57:09] (c) the substitution of paragraph (1) of Article 13 with the following: "(1) Subject to the provisions of paragraph (2), a master shall have in his possession, immediately prior to the intended time of sailing,— (a) the current 96 hour weather forecast from the Irish Meteorological Service covering both wind and sea conditions for those areas in which the vessel is intended to travel during the first 96 hours of the intended voyage, and (b) sufficient other information on the recent and prevailing wind and sea conditions for the route of the intended voyage as would enable him to assess the sea conditions on that route.", (d) the insertion of the following words after the word "forecast" in Article 13(3): "and such other information as is", (e) the insertion of the following words after the word "forecast" in sub-paragraph (a) of Article 13(4): "and such other information as is", (f) the insertion of the following words after the words "90 metres in length overall" in sub-paragraph (c) of Article 13(4); "or have a roll period of less than 15 seconds,", (g) the deletion of sub-paragraph (h) of paragraph 1 of the First Schedule. This Order amends the Diseases of Animals (Carriage of Cattle by Sea) Order, 1996 ( S.I. No. 17 of 1996 ) to specify conditions under which vessels with a roll period of less than 15 seconds may be approved for the carriage of livestock.
