Act No. 3/85 of 11 May 1985 on delimitation of the territorial waters, the contiguous zone and the continental shelf Considering that the Award made by the Arbitral Tribunal in The Hague on 14 February 1985 d~limited the maritime boundary between the Republic of Guinea-Bissau and the Republic of Guinea; Considering that the decision made by this high court of arbitration brought an end, through the peaceful settleme~t adopted, to the maritime boundary dispute between the two neighbouring countries; Considering further that the two fraternal peoples thereby achieved a historic result, which is iroportant in the development of the good and close relations of friendshipa.nd. ~perationwhich have always ~xi.sted between their two countries: At the proposal of the Council of Ministers and in exercise of the functions and powers conferred on it under article 56. item 8. of the Constitution, the People's National Assembly approves, and I promulgate, the following Act: brticle 1 The line delimiting the maritime reas appertaining to the Republic of Guinea-Bissau and the Republic of Guinea, respectively: (a) Begins at the intersection of the cajet thalweg and the meridian longitude 15°06'30" west; (b) Connects, by means of loxodromes. the following points: A B c North ;atitude 10°50'00" 10°40'00" West longitude 15°09'00" 15°34'15" (c) Follows a loxodrome on a bearjing of 236 0 from point C above to the outer 200-mile limit. A;ticle 2 The territorial sea shall extend, within the national maritime frontiers, for a distance of 12 nautical miles measure4 from the straight baselines established by Act No. 2/85. Article 3 1. The exclusive economic zone shall extend, within the national maritime frontiers, for a distance of 200 nautical miles measured from the straight baselines established by the above-mentioned Act. 2. The State of Guinea-Bissau shall have the exclusive right to explore and exploit the living and natural resources of the sea and the continental shelf, slopes and sea-bed within the exclusive economic zone. Article 4 Fishing within the exclusive economic zone by any foreign vessel or ship not authorized by the Government of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau is expressly prohibited. Article 5 Violations of article 4 shall be punished under the terms of the law. Artigle 6 Any legislation which is at variance with this Act shall be revoked. Article 7 This Act shall enter into force immediately.
