This Order may be cited as the Open Seasons Hunting and Trapping Order, 2019-2020 . 55/19 s1 Definitions 2. In this Order, "regulations" means the Wild Life Regulations . 55/19 s2 Generally 3. Hunting with a firearm on Sundays shall be permitted across the entire province beginning October 6, 2019 and ending April 26, 2020 for the species and during the seasons as described in this Order, including any prescribed season for wild geese, wild ducks and snipe. 55/19 s4 PART I FUR BEARING ANIMALS Fur bearing animals - Labrador 5. (1) In this section, "fur management zone" means the fur management zones described in Schedule B of the Fur Bearing Animals and Coyote Trapping and Shooting Order, Newfoundland and Labrador . (2) The open season for the trapping and shooting of fur bearing animals in Labrador in the following fur management zones shall be (a) Labrador North Fur Zone: Beaver October 15, 2019 to May 31, 2020 Ermine, weasel October 15, 2019 to March 31, 2020 Fox, coloured October 15, 2019 to March 31, 2020 Fox, white October 15, 2019 to May 31, 2020 Lynx October 15, 2019 to March 31, 2020 Marten October 15, 2019 to March 31, 2020 Mink November 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020 Muskrat October 5, 2019 to May 31, 2020 Otter October 15, 2019 to March 31, 2020 Squirrel October 15, 2019 to March 31, 2020 Wolf October 15, 2019 to March 31, 2020 (b) Labrador South Fur Zone: Beaver October 15, 2019 to May 31, 2020 Ermine, weasel November 1, 2019 to March 20, 2020 Fox, coloured November 1, 2019 to March 20, 2020 Fox, white November 1, 2019 to March 20, 2020 Lynx November 1, 2019 to March 20, 2020 Marten November 1, 2019 to March 20, 2020 Mink November 1, 2019 to March 20, 2020 Muskrat October 15, 2019 to May 31, 2020 https://www.canlii.org/en/nl/laws/regu/nlr-71-18/latest/nlr-71-18.html Otter October 15, 2019 to March 20, 2020 Squirrel November 1, 2019 to March 20, 2020 Wolf November 1, 2019 to March 20, 2020 (3) The open season for the shooting of wolf in Labrador under a wolf shooting licence issued under section 15 of the regulations shall be (a) October 15, 2019 to March 31, 2020 in the Labrador North Fur Zone; and (b) October 15, 2019 to March 31, 2020 in the Labrador South Fur Zone. (4) A person who takes a wolf shall surrender the lower jawbone or complete skull of each wolf taken to the office specified by the Wildlife Division by May 11, 2020. 55/19 s5 Fur bearing animals - Newfoundland 6. (1) In this section, "fur management area" means the fur management areas described in Schedule A of the Fur Bearing Animals and Coyote Trapping and Shooting Order, Newfoundland and Labrador . (2) The open season for the trapping of fur bearing animals on the Island of Newfoundland in all fur management areas, except in the Northern Peninsula fur management area, shall be Beaver October 20, 2019 to April 15, 2020 Ermine, weasel November 1, 2019 to February 28, 2020 Mink November 1, 2019 to February 28, 2020 Muskrat November 1, 2019 to March 15, 2020 Otter November 1, 2019 to March 15, 2020 Squirrel November 1, 2019 to February 28, 2020 Wolf November 1, 2019 to February 1, 2020 (3) The open season for the trapping and shooting of fur bearing animals on the Island of Newfoundland in all fur management areas, except in the Northern Peninsula fur management area, shall be Fox, coloured November 1, 2019 to February 1, 2020 Fox, white November 1, 2019 to February 1, 2020 (4) The open season for the trapping of fur bearing animals on the Island of Newfoundland in the Northern Peninsula fur management area shall be Beaver October 20, 2019 to April 15, 2020 Ermine, weasel October 20, 2019 to February 28, 2020 Mink November 1, 2019 to February 28, 2020 Muskrat October 20, 2019 to March 15, 2020 Otter October 20, 2019 to March 15, 2020 Squirrel October 20, 2019 to February 28, 2020 https://www.canlii.org/en/nl/laws/regu/nlr-71-18/latest/nlr-71-18.html Wolf October 20, 2019 to February 1, 2020 (5) The open season for the trapping and shooting of fur bearing animals on the Island of Newfoundland in the Northern Peninsula fur management area shall be Fox, coloured October 20, 2019 to February 1, 2020 Fox, white October 20, 2019 to February 1, 2020 (6) The open season for the trapping and shooting of lynx on the Island of Newfoundland in the following fur management areas shall be (a) January 1, 2020 to February 1, 2020 in the Lynx Zone A: Northern Region (Open); and (b) January 15, 2020 to February 1, 2020 in the Lynx Zone B: Southern Region. (7) Notwithstanding subsection (6), there shall be no open season for the trapping and shooting of lynx in (a) Brunette Island , Fortune Bay ; and (b) Great Southern Harbour. (8) A person who takes a lynx shall register it with the office specified by the Wildlife Division for tagging before the close of business hours on February 7, 2020. (9) The open season for the shooting of wolf on the Island of Newfoundland under a wolf shooting licence issued under section 15 of the regulations shall be October 15, 2019 to March 31, 2020. (10) A person who takes a wolf shall surrender the lower jawbone or complete skull of each wolf taken to the office specified by the Wildlife Division by May 11, 2020. 55/19 s6 PART II BIG GAME Black bear - Labrador 7. The open seasons for the snaring and shooting of black bear in Labrador, excluding Torngat Mountains National Park and Mealy Mountains National Park , are August 10, 2019 to November 30, 2019 and April 1, 2020 to July 13, 2020. 55/19 s7 Black bear - Newfoundland 8. (1) In this section, "moose management area" means the moose management areas described in the Schedule A to the Moose Huntin g Order, Newfoundland and Labrador . (2) The open seasons for the snaring and shooting of black bear on the Island of Newfoundland in all moose management areas shall be September 14, 2019 to November 10, 2019 and May 1, 2020 to July 15, 2020. (3) Notwithstanding subsection (2), there shall be no open season for the snaring or shooting of black bear in moose management areas 31 to 36, 43 and 44. (4) The open season for the shooting of black bear on the Island of Newfoundland in all moose management areas by bow and arrow shall be August 31, 2019 to September 13, 2019. (5) Notwithstanding subsection (4), there shall be no open season for the shooting of black bear by bow and arrow in moose management areas 31 to 36 and 44. (6) For the purpose of this section, (a) moose management area 2 includes moose management areas 2A and 2B; (b) moose management area 5 includes moose management area 5A; and (c) moose management area 39 includes moose management area 39A. 55/19 s8 Caribou - Labrador 9. For the purpose of conservation, there shall be no open season in Labrador for the hunting of caribou. 55/19 s9 Caribou - Newfoundland 10. (1) In this section, "caribou management area" means the caribou management areas described in the Schedule to the Caribou Huntin g Order, Newfoundland . (2) The open season for the shooting of caribou on the Island of Newfoundland in the following caribou management areas shall be Area No. Season Dates 61 September 14, 2019 to December 1, 2019 62 September 14, 2019 to December 1, 2019 64 September 14, 2019 to December 1, 2019 66 to 68 September 14, 2019 to December 1, 2019 70 September 21, 2019 to October 6, 2019 72 September 14, 2019 to October 13, 2019 76 to 79 September 14, 2019 to December 1, 2019 (3) The open season for the shooting of caribou on the Island of Newfoundland by bow and arrow in the caribou management areas listed in subsection (2) except caribou management areas 70 and 72 shall be August 31, 2019 to September 13, 2019. 55/19 s10 Moose - Labrador 11. (1) In this section, "moose management area" means the moose management areas described in the Schedule B to the Moose Huntin g Order, Newfoundland and Labrador . (2) The open season for the shooting of moose in Labrador in all moose management areas shall be September 14, 2019 to March 8, 2020. (3) The open season for the shooting of moose in Labrador by bow and arrow in all moose management areas shall be August 31, 2019 to September 13, 2019. 55/19 s11 Moose - Newfoundland 12. (1) In this section, "moose management area" means the moose management areas described in the Schedule A to the Moose Huntin g Order, Newfoundland and Labrador . (2) The open season for the shooting of moose on the Island of Newfoundland in the following moose management areas shall be Area No. Season Dates 1-27 September 14, 2019 to December 31, 2019 28-36 October 5, 2019 to December 31, 2019 37 September 14, 2019 to December 31, 2019 38 October 5, 2019 to December 31, 2019 39-43 September 14, 2019 to December 31, 2019 44 October 5, 2019 to December 31, 2019 45 September 14, 2019 to December 31, 2019 47 October 5, 2019 to December 31, 2019 100 September 21, 2019 to December 31, 2019 101 August 31, 2019 to December 31, 2019 (3) The open season for the shooting of moose on the Island of Newfoundland by bow and arrow in all moose management areas except moose management areas 28 to 36, 38, 44 and 47 shall be August 31, 2019 to September 13, 2019. (4) The open season for the shooting of moose on the Island of Newfoundland by bow and arrow in moose management areas 28 to 36, 38, 44 and 47 shall be September 21, 2019 to October 4, 2019. (5) Notwithstanding anything in this section, there shall be no open season for the shooting of moose in moose management area 43 for moose that are predominately white in colour. 55/19 s12 Polar bears - Labrador 13. The open season for the shooting of polar bear in Labrador in the area from Fish Cove Point in Groswater Bay to Cape Chidley shall be February 1, 2020 to June 30, 2020. 55/19 s13 PART III SMALL GAME Small game - Labrador 14. (1) The open season for the shooting of small game in Labrador shall be Artic hare October 1, 2019 to April 20, 2020 Varying hare, snowshoe hare October 1, 2019 to April 20, 2020 Ptarmigan October 1, 2019 to April 20, 2020 Ruffed grouse, spruce grouse October 1, 2019 to April 20, 2020 Porcupine October 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020 (2) The open season for the snaring of small game in Labrador shall be Artic hare October 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020 Varying hare, snowshoe hare October 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020 Ptarmigan October 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020 Ruffed grouse, spruce grouse October 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020 55/19 s14 Small game - Newfoundland 15. (1) In this section, "small game management area" means the small game management areas described in the Schedule to the Small Game Hunting and Snaring Order, Newfoundland and Labrador . (2) The open season for the shooting of varying hare and snowshoe hare on the Island of Newfoundland shall be (a) October 5, 2019 to December 22, 2019 on Great Island; (b) October 5, 2019 to November 3, 2019 on Little Bay Islands; and (c) October 5, 2019 to March 8, 2020 on the remainder of the Island of Newfoundland except Bell Island in Conception Bay. (3) The open season for the shooting of ptarmigan on the Island of Newfoundland in the following small game management areas shall be (a) September 21, 2019 to November 10, 2019 in the Burin Area and the Avalon/Swift Current Area; (b) September 21, 2019 to November 10, 2019 in the Topsails Area; and (c) September 21, 2019 to December 1, 2019 on the remainder of the Island of Newfoundland and the islands adjacent to the Island of Newfoundland. (4) The open season for the shooting of ruffed grouse and spruce grouse on the Island of Newfoundland shall be September 21, 2019 to December 22, 2019. (5) The open season for the snaring of varying hare and snowshoe hare on the Island of Newfoundland shall be (a) October 5, 2019 to December 22, 2019 on Great Island; https://www.canlii.org/en/nl/laws/regu/nlr-75-18/latest/nlr-75-18.html https://www.canlii.org/en/nl/laws/regu/nlr-75-18/latest/nlr-75-18.html (b) October 5, 2019 to November 3, 2019 on Little Bay Islands; and (c) October 5, 2019 to March 8, 2020 on the remainder of the Island of Newfoundland except Bell Island in Conception Bay, Glover Island in Grand Lake and the following small game management areas: (i) the Pine Marten Study Area, (ii) the Main River Study Area, (iii) the Little Grand Lake Wild Life Reserve, and (iv) the Little Grand Lake Provisional Ecological Reserve. (6) The open season for the snaring of ptarmigan on the Island of Newfoundland shall be October 5, 2019 to March 8, 2020 except Glover Island in Grand Lake and the following small game management areas: (a) the Pine Marten Study Area; (b) the Burin Area; (c) the Main River Study Area; (d) the Little Grand Lake Wild Life Reserve; and (e) the Little Grand Lake Provisional Ecological Reserve. (7) The open season for the snaring of ruffed grouse and spruce grouse on the Island of Newfoundland shall be October 5, 2019 to March 8, 2020 except Glover Island in Grand Lake and the following small game management areas: (a) the Pine Marten Study Area; (b) the Main River Study Area; (c) the Little Grand Lake Wild Life Reserve; and (d) Little Grand Lake Provisional Ecological Reserve. (8) Notwithstanding anything in this section, there is no open season for the shooting or snaring of small game on (a) Kelly's Island in Conception Bay ; and (b) Brunette Island in Fortune Bay . 55/19 s15 PART IV COYOTE Coyote - Newfoundland and Labrador 16. The open season for the shooting of coyote on the Island of Newfoundland and in Labrador under a coyote shooting licence shall be September 14, 2019 to July 15, 2020. 55/19 s16 Coyote - Labrador 17. (1) In this section, "fur management zone" means the fur management zones described in Schedule B of the Fur Bearing Animals and Coyote Trapping and Shooting Order, Newfoundland and Labrador . (2) The open season for the trapping and shooting of coyote in Labrador in the following fur management areas shall be (a) October 15, 2019 to March 31, 2020 in the Labrador North Fur Zone; and (b) November 1, 2019 to March 20, 2020 in the Labrador South Fur Zone. 55/19 s17 Coyote - Newfoundland 18. (1) In this section, "fur management area" means the fur management areas described in Schedule A of the Fur Bearing Animals and Coyote Trapping and Shooting Order, Newfoundland and Labrador . (2) The open season for the trapping and shooting of coyote on the Island of Newfoundland in all fur management areas, except in the Northern Peninsula fur management area, shall be November 1, 2019 to February 1, 2020. (3) The open season for the trapping and shooting of coyote on the Island of Newfoundland in the Northern Peninsula fur management area shall be October 20, 2019 to February 1, 2020. 55/19 s18 Repeal 19.
