4. Repeal and replacement of section 3. No. 31] Public Health 297 No. 31 of 2021 I assent, (H.E. MS. FROYLA TZALAM) Governor-General 11th November 2021 AN ACT to amend the Public Health Act Chapter 40 of the Substantive Laws of Belize, Revised Edition 2011; to provide for the change of name of the Public Health Act to the Public Health (Reform) Act; and to provide for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. (Gazetted 11th November, 2021) BE IT ENACTED, by and with the advice and consent of the House of Representatives and Senate of Belize and by the authority of the same, as follows:
1. This Act may be cited as the Short title. PUBLIC HEALTH (AMENDMENT) (NO. 3) ACT, 2021, 298 Public Health [No. 31 CAP. 40. and shall be read and construed as one with the Public Health 2 of 2021. 11 of 2021. Act, which, as amended, is hereinafter referred to as the principal Act. Amendment of 2. The principal Act is amended as follows– long title, etc. (a) in its long title, by deleting the words “Public Health Act” and substituting the words “Public Health (Reform) Act”; (b) in Schedule II, by deleting the words “Public Health Act” and substituting the words “Public Health (Reform) Act”; (c) in Schedule VIII, by deleting the words “Public Health Act” and substituting the words “Public Health (Reform) Act”; (d) in Schedule IX, by deleting the words “Public Health Act” and substituting the words “Public Health (Reform) Act”. Substitution 3. The principal Act is amended by deleting the term of term. “Director of Health Services” wherever is appears and substituting the term “Director of Public Health and Wellness”. Repeal and 4. The principal Act is amended by repealing section replacement of section 3. 3 and replacing it with the following– “Appointment 3.–(1) The Public Services Commission of Director of Public Health may, pursuant to section 106 of the Belize and Wellness, Constitution, appoint– medical officers and public health (a) a Director of Public Health inspectors. CAP. 4. and Wellness; (b) medical officers of health; No. 31] Public Health 299 (c) a Principal Health Inspector and such other public health inspectors as may be necessary; and (d) such other officers as may be necessary to discharge the functions and duties prescribed by this Act or the regulations. CAP. 39. (2) A Medical Officer appointed under the Medical Service and Institutions Act shall be a health officer for Belize, unless provided otherwise under any law.”.
