These Regulations may be cited as the FLSHEKIES (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 19?3 and shall be read and construed as one with the Fislleries Regulations which, a,s amended. are hereinafter referred to as the principal Regulations. 2. Regulation 2 of the principal Regulations is amended by repealing the definition of "turtle" and replacing it with the following:M~ ''turtle'' means a rrwioe or freshwnrer wttle as rustinguished from a terrestrial species of tortoise.'' 3. Regufation 10 ,,r the principal Regulations is hereby repealed and replaced by the following:~w '' 10(1). No person shall fish, sell, purchase or have in bis possession any turtle, other 1.han turtles of 1he species Dermatemys mawii, (commonly Kllown as hicka.tee), during the periOO from the I st April to the 31st October inclusive, in any year,'' (2) No person shall take any turtle foun<l on l::uid. (3) No person shall interfere wilh any turtle nest." 4. Regulation 11 of the principal Regulations is hereby repealed and replaced by the following: Short Till~ 51,ab. Le& (1991 fdn.) The princi(Xil Regulations are hereby amended by the addition of the following new regulations immediately after Regulation 12>· '' t 2A. No person shall fish, sell, purchase or have in his possession any turtle of the following des:ription:~~ (a) Chelonia mida.t, commonly known as green turtle, greater than 60 cm (24 in) curved carapace length; (b) Carella caretta, commonly known ~ loggerhead turtle, greater than 60 cm (24 in) curved carapace lengUI." •· 12n. (I) No person shall buy, sell or have in bis possession any anicles made of twtle shell. (a) may detain such anicles for personal use: (b) shall not sell such articles later than 31st July, 1993." 6.
