Page 2 2012 SL No. 259 [s 5] Nature Conservation (Macropod Harvest Period 2013) Notice 2012 eastern harvest zone means the area consisting of the area of each local government mentioned in schedule 2, part 2. fully dressed, in relation to a harvest macropod, means a harvest macropod with all of the following parts removed— (a) the head; (b) the viscera; (c) each of the forelimbs, from the elbow joint; (d) the foot of 1 hind limb, from a point below the tarsal joint; (e) the hind limb, other than the hind limb mentioned in paragraph (d), from a point on the tibia midway between the knee and ankle joints; (f) the tail, not more than 160mm from a point where the underside of the tail joins the body in the external urogenital area. harvest macropod see section 3. prescribed part, of a harvest macropod, means a part of the macropod stated in schedule 1, column 1. relevant zone means the central harvest zone, eastern harvest zone or western harvest zone. viscera means all of the contents of the abdominal and thoracic cavities. western harvest zone means the area consisting of the area of each local government mentioned in schedule 2, part 3. 5 Harvest period for harvest macropods (1) The harvest period for a harvest macropod starts, for each relevant zone, on 1 January 2013 and ends at the end of— (a) if the chief executive has published a notice stating the chief executive is satisfied that the relevant maximum amount for the macropod for the zone will have been taken in 2013 by a day stated in the notice—the stated day; or 2012 SL No. 259 Page 3 [s 5] Nature Conservation (Macropod Harvest Period 2013) Notice 2012 (b) otherwise—31 December 2013. (2) A notice mentioned in subsection (1)(a) must be published— (a) in a newspaper circulating generally in the State; and (b) on or before the day the harvest period ends. (3) If the chief executive publishes or intends to publish a notice mentioned in subsection (1)(a) for a harvest macropod for a relevant zone, the chief executive must also give each holder of a macropod harvesting licence for the macropod a written notice stating— (a) the chief executive is satisfied that the relevant maximum amount for the relevant zone will have been taken in 2013 by the day stated in the notice; and (b) the harvest period for the macropod for the zone ends at the end of the stated day. (4) The chief executive must give the notice mentioned in subsection (3) at least 7 days before the day the harvest period ends. (6) In this section— estimated population size, for a harvest macropod in a relevant zone, means the population size estimated by the chief executive for the macropod for the relevant zone for 2013. macropod harvesting licence means— (a) a commercial wildlife harvesting licence for macropods; or (b) a recreational wildlife harvesting licence for macropods. relevant maximum amount means— (a) for an eastern grey kangaroo— Page 4 2012 SL No. 259 [s 6] Nature Conservation (Macropod Harvest Period 2013) Notice 2012 (i) for the central harvest zone—15% of the estimated population size for the kangaroo in the zone; or (ii) for the eastern harvest zone—10% of the estimated population size for the kangaroo in the zone; or (b) for a red kangaroo— (i) for the central harvest zone—20% of the estimated population size for the kangaroo in the zone; or (ii) for the eastern harvest zone—10% of the estimated population size for the kangaroo in the zone; or (iii) for the western harvest zone—10% of the estimated population size for the kangaroo in the zone; or (c) for a common wallaroo— (i) for the central harvest zone—15% of the estimated population size for the wallaroo in the zone; or (ii) for the eastern harvest zone—10% of the estimated population size for the wallaroo in the zone. 6 Condition on taking particular harvest macropod from particular zone For section 11(1)(b) of the conservation plan, the following harvest macropods must not be taken from the western harvest zone during the harvest period— (a) the eastern grey kangaroo; (b) the common wallaroo. 7 Condition on use of harvest macropod (1) For section 11(1)(e) of the conservation plan, the carcass or skin of a harvest macropod taken under a commercial wildlife harvesting licence for macropods during the harvest period must not be sold or given away during the period if the macropod’s body has a bullet wound. (2) In this section— 2012 SL No. 259 Page 5 [s 8] Nature Conservation (Macropod Harvest Period 2013) Notice 2012 body, of a harvest macropod, means a part of the macropod’s body other than its head. 8 Minimum area for skin of harvest macropod taken for skin only For section 12 of the conservation plan, the minimum area for the skin of a harvest macropod taken for its skin only is 0.41m2. 9 Minimum weights for carcass of harvest macropod taken for meat only or meat and skin (1) For section 13 of the conservation plan, the minimum whole weight for the carcass of a harvest macropod taken for its meat only or for both its meat and skin is 20kg. (2) For section 13 of the conservation plan, the minimum dressed weight for the carcass of a harvest macropod taken for its meat only or for both its meat and skin is— (a) if the macropod is fully dressed—13kg; or (b) otherwise—13kg plus the additional weight for each prescribed part of the macropod that is in, on or attached to the macropod. 10 Expiry This notice expires on 31 December 2013.
