Ask the research

Ask in your own words. The answer is the research itself: its records, word for word, with every source and how sure each one is.

The EFTA-Colombia FTA (Geneva, 25 Nov 2008) has been in force for Switzerland since 1 Jul 2011; it removes EFTA import duties on Colombian-originating goods of HS chapters 25-97, gold included, and eliminates export duties subject to Annex IX. Swiss duty on 7108 for all origins was not re-checked. Colombia is a Better Gold country (SECO programme 2025-2029). The recorded flow is small (2024: US$69m by Colombia's count, US$179m by Switzerland's).

Where practice departs from the law

What credible sources show happening that the law does not provide for.

      • Swiss imports from Colombia were about 2.6 times Colombia's recorded exports to Switzerland in 2024 (value). Possible causes include Colombian gold dispatched from free zones or third countries but declared of Colombian origin in Switzerland; not verified.
