For mining engineers
Ten thousand licences are being worked. Most of them have never seen a mine plan.
NMGS-registered mining engineers are found through the people who already know them, engaged on scopes nobody wrote down, and their studies outlive the caveats attached to them. Publish what you are registered for, agree the scope in writing, and keep the work in a record that survives the project.
What the work looks like now
None of this is about engineering. It is about everything around the engineering — who finds you, what the job actually was, and what your study is used for once it leaves your hands.
The operators who need you cannot find you
A small-scale operator working a licence without a mine plan is usually not refusing engineering — they do not know who to ask, and the people they could ask are known to somebody else. Two in five active titles sit in Nasarawa, Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Kaduna, Bauchi and Plateau; the register puts most engineers in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, which between them hold about one title in twenty.
There are 10,125 active mineral titles on the Nigerian register held by 4,129 companies. Most have never engaged an engineer. A profile stating what you are registered for is visible to all of them.
The scope was never written down
A feasibility study becomes a mine plan becomes a rehabilitation schedule, none of it agreed in writing, and the argument at the end is about what the job was.
An engagement records what was asked for, who asked, when you accepted, and when the work was filed. Both sides confirm when it is finished.
Your study is used for something you did not sign it for
A scoping study written for an internal decision turns up in front of a lender as though it were bankable. Your name is on it; the caveats did not travel with it.
Work filed against an order keeps its version, its author and its date. A later revision does not replace the earlier one — both remain, and which was relied on is visible.
Safety work has no standing until something goes wrong
Slope stability and tailings assessments are treated as a cost until there is an incident, and then everyone wants to know what was recommended and when.
A filed geotechnical assessment is dated, attributed and permanent. It is evidence that the advice was given, whatever was done about it.

Each is a distinct engagement on an order, with its own scope, its own acceptance, and its own filed result.
Mine planning & design
Pit or underground design, scheduling and equipment selection — for operations that are working ground without any of it.
Feasibility study
Scoping, pre-feasibility or bankable, with the level stated on the face of it so nobody can quietly promote a scoping study into a bankable one.
Geotechnical & slope stability
Slope, pillar and tailings stability assessment, and the monitoring regime that should follow it.
Rehabilitation & closure planning
Closure, rehabilitation and post-closure land use — increasingly what a licence renewal and a serious buyer both ask to see.
Technical due diligence
Independent review of another party's workings, plans or production claims, for a buyer or financier who needs to know what they are looking at.
Competent Person's Report
An independent CPR, engaged mutually — the party relying on it agrees who signs, which is what makes the signature mean anything.
How verification works for a practice
We check what a regulator has already established, rather than asking you to prove your competence to a marketplace.
- Your NMGS number is the anchor
- The Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society has already checked your qualifications and standing before issuing your number, and the Ministry publishes the register. We verify against that rather than asking you to establish your competence again for a marketplace. A COMEG registration does the same job — bring whichever you hold.
- The registration belongs to you, not the practice
- The register lists people, not firms. A sole practitioner registers their practice, and the credential stays attached to the individual who signs — a plan always traces to a named registered engineer.
- You do not buy or sell here
- An engineering practice cannot take a buy or sell capability. The platform refuses it: a firm that plans a mine and also trades what comes out of it has an interest in the numbers in the plan.
- Accept or decline, always
- Every engagement is offered and you take it or refuse it — for capacity, for a conflict, or because it is outside what you are registered to do. Nobody is conscripted onto a job.
Practical questions
- I am one person, not a firm. Can I register?
- Yes. Register your practice — a sole practice is a company for this purpose. Your NMGS registration stays attached to you as the engineer who signs.
- Most of these operators cannot afford a full study.
- Then the engagement should say what it actually is. A scoping study is a scoping study, and recording it as one protects you more than it limits them — the alternative is your name on a document being read as something it never claimed to be.
- Can I hold both engineering and assay?
- Not on the same material. Independent testing only means something when the laboratory has no interest in the result, and the same logic applies to a plan and the metal it produces. The platform refuses the combination.
- Who sees my work?
- The parties to the order it was filed against, and nobody else. Nothing is published or indexed, and nothing is visible to companies browsing the marketplace.
- What does it cost?
- A company subscription for the paid tiers, never a percentage of your fee — we are not a party to your engagement. Verification, the document record and the audit trail are on the free tier too.
- I am registered outside Nigeria.
- The platform is not Nigeria-only, but the NMGS and COMEG registers are, and they are the credentials we can verify today. Tell us which body registers you and we will say honestly whether we can check it yet.
