What you recommended, and when. You issue an instruction about what to do, and it gets built, half-built, or left in a drawer — and if something fails, the question becomes what you recommended and when. Nelum keeps the scope agreed before the work starts, and the version, author and date of everything filed. Advice given and advice taken are different things, and only one of them is usually written down.
What the record actually holds
None of this is about engineering, and none of it is advice about how to run a practice. It is a description of three mechanics, so you can judge whether they are worth anything to you.
A revision does not overwrite what came before
Every document filed carries its version, its author and its date. Filing a revision adds to the record rather than replacing the earlier one.
Which version a counterparty relied on, and when, stays visible — including for a geotechnical assessment whose recommendations were not acted on.
The scope is fixed before the work starts
An engagement records the request, who made it, your quote and its acceptance in writing, and when each result was filed. It is not a contract and does not replace your own terms.
It means a disagreement at the end is about the finding, not about what the job was.
You accept or decline. Always.
Every engagement is offered and you take it or refuse it — for capacity, for a conflict of interest, or because it falls outside what you are registered to do.
Nobody is listed as available, and nobody is conscripted onto a job by a client who found their name somewhere.
What you can be engaged for
Each is a distinct engagement through a request for quotation, with its own scope, its own quote and acceptance, and its own filed result.
Mine planning & design
Pit or underground design, scheduling and equipment selection — for operations that are working ground without any of it.
Feasibility study
Scoping, pre-feasibility or bankable, with the level stated on the face of it.
Geotechnical & slope stability
Slope, pillar and tailings stability assessment, and the monitoring regime that should follow it.
Rehabilitation & closure planning
Closure, rehabilitation and post-closure land use — increasingly what a licence renewal and a serious buyer both ask to see.
Technical due diligence
Independent review of another party's workings, plans or production claims, for a buyer or financier who needs to know what they are looking at.
Competent Person's Report
An independent CPR on a project or licence.
How verification works for a practice
A practice passes the same company check as every member company, and each person who acts for it passes their own identity check.
- The person who files is named
A sole practitioner registers their practice as a company and passes their own identity check. Every document records who filed it, so a plan always traces to a named, identity-checked engineer.
- Accept or decline, always
Every engagement is offered and you take it or refuse it — for capacity, for a conflict, or because it is outside what you are registered to do. Nobody is conscripted onto a job.
Practical questions
- I am one person, not a firm. Can I register?
Yes. Register your practice — a sole practice is a company for this purpose, and you pass your own identity check as the engineer who acts for it.
- Most of these operators cannot afford a full study.
Then the engagement should say what it actually is. A scoping study is a scoping study, and recording it as one protects you more than it limits them — the alternative is your name on a document being read as something it never claimed to be.
- Can I hold both engineering and assay?
Nelum does not prevent it. But independent testing only means something when the laboratory has no interest in the result, and the same logic applies to a plan and the metal it produces.
- Who sees my work?
The company that engaged you, and the parties it chooses to share it with on the consignment. Nothing is published or indexed, and nothing is visible to companies browsing the marketplace.
- What does it cost?
One company membership, monthly by card, with seats included, never a percentage of your fee — we are not a party to your engagement. Verification is not charged.
- I am registered outside Nigeria.
The platform is not Nigeria-only. Nelum does not check professional registrations with any body today; the company check and the identity checks are the same wherever you are registered.
