The First Step in Discovery
Your signature is the asset — a resource statement is worth something because of who signed it. Nelum records the scope before the work starts, and the version, author and date of everything filed against it, none of which either party can alter afterwards. Whether that is worth anything to your practice is your judgement; this page sets out exactly what it does.
What the record actually holds
None of this is about geology, and none of it is advice about how to run a practice. It is a description of three mechanics, so you can judge whether they are worth anything to you.
The scope is fixed before the work starts
An engagement records the request, who made it, your quote and its acceptance in writing, and the date each result was filed. It is not a contract and it does not replace your terms.
It means that if there is ever a disagreement, it is a disagreement about the finding — not an argument about what the job was.
A revision does not overwrite what came before
Every document filed on a consignment carries its version, its author and its date. Filing a revision adds to the record; it does not replace the earlier one.
Which version a counterparty actually relied on, and when, stays visible. If your work is ever described as saying something it did not, the original is still there and still attributed to you.
You accept or decline. Always.
Every engagement is offered and you take it or refuse it — for capacity, for a conflict of interest, or because it falls outside what you are registered to do.
Nobody is listed as available, and nobody is conscripted onto a job by a client who found their name somewhere.
What you can be engaged for
Each of these is a distinct engagement through a request for quotation, with its own scope, its own quote and acceptance, and its own filed result.
Geological survey & mapping
Field mapping, structural interpretation and target generation over a licence area.
Geochemical sampling programme
Designing and supervising soil, stream-sediment and rock-chip sampling, including the QA-QC protocol — the part that decides whether anyone downstream can rely on the numbers.
Geophysical survey
Magnetic, radiometric, IP or EM survey, and the interpretation that makes it mean something.
Resource & reserve estimation
Mineral resource and ore reserve estimation to a recognised code, with the assumptions stated rather than buried.
Competent Person's Report
An independent CPR on a project or licence.
Technical due diligence & reserve audit
Independent review of another party's geology, workings or production claims, and audit of a declared resource against the code it claims to follow.
How verification works for a practice
A practice passes the same company check as every member company, and each person who acts for it passes their own identity check.
- The person who files is named
A sole practitioner registers their practice as a company and passes their own identity check. Every document records who filed it, so a report always traces to a named, identity-checked person, not to a logo.
- Accept or decline, always
Nobody is conscripted onto a job. Every engagement is offered and you take it or refuse it — for capacity, for a conflict, or because it is outside what you are registered to do.
Practical questions
- I am one person, not a firm. Can I register?
Yes. Register your practice — a sole practice is a company for this purpose, and you pass your own identity check as the person who acts for it.
- Can I offer assay as well?
Nelum does not prevent it. But independent testing only means something when the laboratory has no interest in the result, and the same is true of a report.
- Who sees my report?
The company that engaged you, and the parties it chooses to share it with on the consignment. It is not published, not indexed, and not visible to companies browsing the marketplace.
- What if my client disputes the finding?
The record shows what was asked, what was filed, when, and by whom. A disagreement about a conclusion is a disagreement about the conclusion — not an argument about what was actually delivered.
- What does it cost?
One company membership, monthly by card, with seats included, and never a percentage of your fee — we are not a party to your engagement. Verification is not charged.
- I work outside Nigeria.
The platform is not Nigeria-only. Nelum does not check professional registrations with any society today; the company check and the identity checks are the same wherever you work.
