The Australia-UK FTA (done 16-17 Dec 2021; in force 31 May 2023 per the Customs Act endnotes and DFAT) and CPTPP (UK accession effective 15 Dec 2024) cover the pair but change nothing for gold on the Australian side: no export permit or duty; origin records only if a UK preference is claimed (Customs Act Div 4M). UK tariff and VAT treatment are in the UK module. The UK was Australia's second HS 7108 destination in 2024 (about 54-64 t).

Where practice departs from the law
What credible sources show happening that the law does not provide for.
UK imports from Australia exceeded Australia's recorded exports to the UK by about 20% by value (2024), possibly Australian-origin bars shipped via third countries (UK records origin).
Figures: UK US$5,082.6m vs AU US$4,248.1m
Official guidanceResearcher's note: Researcher's arithmetic; explanation is inference.
[conflict] Signature date of the A-UKFTA: the Customs Act (s.126ARA definition of Agreement) says "done on 16 and 17 December 2021"; DFAT's agreement page says "signed on 17 December 2021". The model records both; entry into force (31 May 2023) is the same in both sources. Affects augb.agr-aukfta.
