The role
Nelum is seeking a KYB Analyst to verify the companies that join the platform: that a business is what it says it is, who ultimately owns and controls it, and whether it or its people present a sanctions, PEP or financial-crime risk.
Every company on Nelum is identity-checked before it can act on the platform. You will make those decisions to a consistent standard and record the reasoning behind each one.
Key responsibilities
Corporate verification
- Review registration documents, articles and registry extracts, including Nigeria's CAC, UAE free-zone registries such as DMCC, and Companies House.
- Map ownership and control structures to identify ultimate beneficial owners.
Screening
- Screen entities, directors and beneficial owners against sanctions and PEP lists and adverse media.
- Resolve potential matches and record the basis for each decision.
Due diligence
- Conduct customer due diligence and enhanced due diligence to the standard each case requires.
- Assess source of funds and the nature of the business — the commodities it documents and the jurisdictions it operates in.
Case management
- Act as the escalation point for high-risk onboarding cases.
- Contribute to periodic re-screening and to the policies and procedures behind the review.
Ideal candidate
Two to four years in KYC, KYB or AML, ideally in financial services, commodities or trade.
A strong understanding of corporate structures — holding companies, trusts and partnerships — and of beneficial-ownership and AML regimes, including FATF standards.
Experience with commercial sanctions and PEP screening tools.
Qualifications
- ACAMS (CAMS) or an ICA qualification is desirable.
Engagement
Full-time. Full-time.
About Nelum
Nelum is a technology company building compliance-as-a-service and market-access infrastructure for artisanal and small-scale mining and the wider commodities sector. The platform helps licensed miners, mining cooperatives and commodity businesses become verified, compliant and buyer-ready, and improves transparency, traceability and responsible sourcing across international supply chains.
The platform is built to operate internationally. It is commodity-agnostic and corridor-based: a new producing country or a new material is a configuration of the same system rather than a separate build. The commodity scope is precious metals; tin, tantalum and tungsten; battery and technical metals; precious stones; and oil.
Our first corridor is Nigeria to Dubai, and our first material is gold — chosen because it is the hardest provenance environment in commodities. The company is structured for that reach from the outset: a UK parent, an intended operating entity in Dubai, engineering resourced internationally, and field operations beginning in Nigeria. The public platform runs in English, Arabic and Chinese.
