The role
We are looking for an experienced Finance Manager or Senior Accountant with Nigerian tax and commodities experience.
This person will work closely with the CFO and will be responsible for accurate day-to-day financial operations.
Key responsibilities
Accounting and reporting
- Maintain accounting records, accounts payable and receivable, and bank reconciliations.
- Reconcile subscription revenue; manage expenses and coordinate payroll.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and cash-flow reporting.
- Handle supplier payments, customer invoicing and financial documentation.
- Keep multi-entity and multi-currency books as the group's structure develops.
Tax administration
- Administer VAT, withholding tax and Nigerian corporate tax, with the supporting documentation.
- Support external auditors and tax advisers.
Commodities experience
- Understand how commodity transactions affect accounting records, cash flow, margins, foreign exchange and taxation.
- Reconcile a physical position, an advance against it, a provisional settlement, a final settlement and an FX movement as one trade rather than five unrelated entries.
Ideal candidate
Experience with mining companies, gold businesses, commodity traders, import/export companies, refiners or international trading businesses would be highly advantageous.
Qualifications
- A recognised accounting qualification (ICAN, ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), or equivalent experience.
- Working knowledge of Nigerian tax administration.
Engagement
Full-time or part-time. We are open to full-time or part-time, depending on experience.
About Nelum
Nelum is a technology company building compliance-as-a-service and market-access infrastructure for artisanal and small-scale mining and the wider commodities sector. The platform helps licensed miners, mining cooperatives and commodity businesses become verified, compliant and buyer-ready, and improves transparency, traceability and responsible sourcing across international supply chains.
The platform is built to operate internationally. It is commodity-agnostic and corridor-based: a new producing country or a new material is a configuration of the same system rather than a separate build. The commodity scope is precious metals; tin, tantalum and tungsten; battery and technical metals; precious stones; and oil.
Our first corridor is Nigeria to Dubai, and our first material is gold — chosen because it is the hardest provenance environment in commodities. The company is structured for that reach from the outset: a UK parent, an intended operating entity in Dubai, engineering resourced internationally, and field operations beginning in Nigeria. The public platform runs in English, Arabic and Chinese.
