OF (JJALI'lY) (ICDATID SALT) RInJIAT.I(H) 1993 Citatial 1. 'I11e..c:;e Regulations may be cited as the Food (control of Quality) (Iodated salt) Regulations, 1992. Int:eqretatial 2. In these Regulations, tmless the context otherwise requires: dealer- in relation to iodated salt in package form, means a person who <::a:rries ~,diJ::ectly or'otherwise,the business of buying, selling, supplying or distributing iodated salt whether in wholesale or retail, but does not include a' rranufacturer who rranufactures iodated salt which is sold or distributed in a package form except where iodated salt is sold by such rranufacturer to any other person other than a dealer: "Lodatied salt- means a crystalline solid, white or pale, pink or light grey in colour, free fran visible caltamination with dust, dirt, clay, grit or any other extraneous adulrerants or inp.lrities and containing rroisture not exceeding 6.0 per cent of the weight of the uOOr'ied sarple and containing 00 chy weight basis: -: i) at least 97.0 per cent by wei~t of sodiun chloride: ii) not rrore than 1.0 per cent by weight of matter insoluble in water: 162 Food (Control of Quality) (Iodated Salt) G.N. No. 83 (contd.) iii) not nnre than 2.0 per cent by wei~t of matter soluble in water other than sodiun chloride: am iv) the level of iodine shall be 100 parts per million at the scme time of manufacture am not less than 30 parts per million at the time of its retail sale: "Minister" means the Minister for the time being responsible for health: "package" means a box, bottle, casket, tin, barrel, container, case, receptacle, sack, jute bag with an internal polythene lining, or a polythene bag in which iodated salt is placed or packed: "packer" means a person wIJ,O packs iodated salt in a package, in quantities suitable for sale whether wholesale or retail: "principal display panel" in relation to a package, means that praninent part of a package which is .intended: or is likely to be displayed, presented or shown to or excmined by the custaner under nonnal or custanary conditions of display: "salt laboratory" means a roan or building equipped for testing of iodated salt. 3. No person shall irrp:>rt into the United Republic any edible salt in any other form other than iodated salt. 4. No person shall pack, cause or pex:mit to be packed iodated salt for sale, distributicn, or de1iVel:y unless the package in ..u.ch· the iodated salt is packed bears within the principal display panel, the area of ..u.ch shall not be less than forty percent of the total surface area of the paclsage, legible and unarbiguos declaration as to: a) '!be CClTPlete nane and address of the: i) manufacturer, if the manufacturer is also the pack~: or ii) packer, i.f the packer is not the manufacturer: b) the net weight of the iodated salt contained in the package, exclu:ling tM weight of the package: c) the roonth and year in which the iodated salt is manufactured and packed: d) the batch and lot nurDer of the package: and e) the fact that the salt in the package is iodated. ODHtiaIs fer 6. dealers in iodated salt No dealer or any other person shall: a) store, display, sell or distribute iodated salt in the package fonn unless the package carplies with in all respects, the provisions of J:t91laticn 5: b) sell or distribute iodated salt CXXltained in a package ..u.ch has been damaged, unless the dealer obtains the aRJrOVal of the authori2ed offiCer, or c) obliterate or alter any declaraticn made 00 any package. 7. Any autlxlri2ed officer may inspect any factory or any ccmnercial concern, slx>p, store, any prenises or vessel where edible salt isrMnufactured, packed or stored as the case may be, and may send the satple of that salt to any salt laboratory for analysis. 164 Food (Controi afQua/ity) (Iodated Salt) 8.
