Resolution No. 1522/W of 1989 on mesh sizes for trawl nets

Syrian Arab Republic Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform RESOLUTION NO. 1552/W In accordance with the Legislative Decree No. 30 for the year 1964 concerning the protection of aquatic life particularly Article No. 30 of the said decree, as well as according to the minutes of the meeting by the technical committee formed with the Resolution No. 75/w dated 31 January 1989 and on the basis of requirements for public interest; THE MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE AND AGRARIAN REFORM has decided the following: Article 1: The boats with nets already authorized for sea fishing shall be allowed to use a net with a mesh not less than 18mm at an experimental phase for a period lasting two productive seasons as from 15 September 1989 to 15 May 1991. Article 2: The owners of the dragging boats shall submit regular declarations on the outcome of overall catches, to be used for research purposes. The owners shall also carry out comparative fishing operations in accordance with the plan laid down by the competent authority at the Ministry. Article 3: The results of this experiment shall be considered and discussed after it has been completed. A decision on the extension of the experiment or the adoption of a measurement for the meshes of the drag net shall be taken as well, in such a way that the energies available could be well exploited and the fish stock on the bottom could be protected from damage at the same time. Article 4: This Resolution shall be published and communicated to whoever may be bound to comply with its provisions.
