REPUBLIC OF KIRIBATI MARINE ZONES (DECLARATION) ACT 2011 (No. 4 of2011) TERRITORIAL SEA BASELINES OF KIRIBATI REGULATIONS 2014 In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 14 of the Marine Zones (Declaration) Act 201 1, the Minister for Fisheries, and Marine Development hereby makes the following Regulations: 1 Citation PART I PRELIMINARY These Regulations may be cited as the Territo rial Sea Baselines of Kiribati Regulations 2014. 2 Interpretation "Baseline" means the baseline from which the breadth of the territorial sea, contiguous zone, exclusive economic zone and continental shelf is measured. PART II BASELINES 3 Tenitorial Sea Baselines - Gilbert Group (1) The baselines for the territorial sea in the Gilbert Group are specified in the tables in Schedule 1. (2) The table in Part l of Schedule 1 specifies the points on the baseline from which the breadth of the territorial sea around Banaba is measured. (3) The table in Part 2 of Schedule l specifies the points on the baseline from which the breadth of the territorial sea around Nikunau is measured. ( 4) The table in Part 3 of Schedule 1 specifies the points on the baseline from which the breadth of the territorial sea around Tamana is measured. (5) The table in Part 4 of Schedule 1 specifies the points on the baseline from which the breadth of the territorial sea around Arorae is measured. 4 Tenitorial Sea Baselines - Phoenix Group (l) The baselines for the territorial sea in the Phoenix Group are specified in the tables in Schedule 2. Page 1of39 (2) The table in Part 1 of Schedule 2 specifies the points on the baseline from which the breadth of the terri torial sea around Nikumaroro is measured. (3) The table in Part 2 of Schedule 2 specifies the points on the baseline from which the breadth of the te rritorial sea around McKean is measured. (4) The table in Part 3 of Schedule 2 specifies the points on the baseline from which the breadth of the territorial sea around Kanton is measured. (5) The table in Part 4 of Schedule 2 specifies the points on the baseline !Tom which the breadth of the territorial sea around Enderbury is measured. (6) The table in Parl S of Schedule 2 specifies the points on the baseline from which the breadth of the territorial sea around Birnie is measured. (2) The table in Part I of Schedule 3 specifies the points on the baseline from which the breadth of the territo rial sea around Teraina (Washington) is measured. (3) The table in Part 2 of Schedule 3 specifies the points on the baseline from which the breadth of the territoria l sea around Tabuaeran (Fanning) is measured. (4) The table in Part 3 of Schedule 3 specifies the points on the baseline from which the breadth of the territorial sea around Kiritimati (Christmas) is measured. (5) The table in Part 4 of Schedule 3 specifies the points on the baseline from w hich the breadth of the tenito rial sea around Malden is measured. (6) The table in Part S of Schedule 3 specifies the points on the baseline from w hich the breadth of the territorial sea around Starbuck is measured. (7) The table in Part 6 of Schedule 3 specifies the points on the baseline from which the breadth of the territorial sea around Vostok is measured. Page 2 of 39 (9) The table in Part 8 of Schedule 3 specifies the points on the baseline from which the breadth of the territorial sea around Flint is measured. 6 Guide to reading Schedules 1, 2 and 3 ( 1) In the tables in Schedules 1, 2 and 3: (a) the first column sets out the point identifier, (b) the second and third columns set out the geographic coordinates for each point, and ( (c) the fourth column sets out the zone(s) measured from the point. (2) In the fourth column: (a) TS stands for territorial sea, (b) CZ stands for contiguous zone, (c) EEZ stands for exclusive economic zone and (d) CS stands for continental shelf. PARTill GEOGRAPHIC COORDINATES POINTS 7 Geodetic framework Jn these Regulations, points defined by geographic coordinates are determined by reference to the World Geodetic System 1984 (WGS 84). 8 Illustrative charts The charts in Schedule 4 provide a general illustration of the points on the baselines specified in Schedules 1, 2 and 3, and the baselines.
