2 THE GAZETTE OF INDIA : EXTRAORDINARY Jvflll,,1IS1'RY OF ENVIRONMENT AND FOREST NOTIF1CATION New Delhi, Lhe 23rd August, 2007 [PART II-SEC. 3(ii)] S .O. 1519(£) .- Wherea , the Central Governme nt, with a view to protecting the e nvironment, nature and health in connect ion with the applicati on of gene tech nology and micro-organisms, has notified the Manufacture, Use, Import, Ex port and Storage of Hazardous micro-organisms/ Genetically engineered organi sms or Cells Rules, I 989 (hereinafter referred to as the said Rules ) vide number G .S.R. l037(E), dated the 5Lh December. 19 9; And, whereas, rule 20 of the said Rules empowers the Minis try of E nvironm ent and Forests to exempt an occupier handling a part icular micro-organisms/genetically engineered organisms from the applicati o n of the provi sions of rules 7 to 11 of the said .l{ul es; And , whereas, the Min istry of Enviro nment and Forests con iders it nece sary that the occupier of processed rood deri vcd from Jiving modified organi sms specified in c,olumn (]) of the Table below may be exempted from the provisions or the rule specified in column (2) of the said Table; Now, th erefore, in pursuance of rule 20 of the Manufacture, Use, Import, Ex port and Storage of Hazard.rus micro­ o rganisms/Genetica lly engineered organism· or Cell s Rul es, 19~9 , the Minis try o f EnvironmenL and Forests, hereby ex­ empts he occupier of the processed food deri ved from Ji ving modified organisms specified in the Table with effect from the date of puhlication of this notificati on in the Official Gazette, namely : TABLE Proce~sed food items derived from living mod ified orga nisms Rul e from which exempted.
