J ASSAM ACT XIII OF 1943. THE ASSAM HINDU WOMEN'S R IGHTS TO PROPERTY (EXTENSION T O AGRI CUL TURAL LAND) ACT, 1943. [Passed by the Assam Legislature.] (Received the assent of the Governor on the 7th December 1943. [Published in the Assam Gazett~ of the 15th December 1943.] An Act to extend the operation ~f the Hindu Women'.r Rights to Property Act, 1937, and the Hindu Women'J Rights lo Property (Amendment) Act, 1938, to Agricultural land i11 the Province of Assam. WHFi.tEAS the Hindu Women's Rights to Property Act, 1937, and the Hindu Women's Rights to Proper ty (Amendmen t) Act, 1938, purport to give better rights to women in respect of property in general ; And whereas transactions have already taken place in the Province on the basis that women had acquired betttr r!ghts under the said Acts in respect or agricul tural land as well as other kind~ of property ; And whereas it has now been established that the said Ac-ts do not operate to give them better rights i n respect of agricultural land ; A-ice 1 amz or Id. '" I 2 And whereas in order to validate those transac tions as well as to give women in future those better rights and for other purposes, it is expedient to extend the operation of the said Acts to agricultural land with retrospective effect, but with certain savings ; It is hereby enacted as follows: Short title, 1.(1) This Act may be called the Assam Hindu e, tent and commence- Women's Rights to Property (Extension to Agricultu ment. ral Land) Act, 1943.
