Minister of Agriculture~s Decree N°2/Kpts/Um/1/1975 on The Protection of the fish resources in the waters of Irian Jaya The Minister of Agriculture Considering: that in order to effect the policy of the Minister of Agricul ture in the matter of the protection of the riches that are found in the fish resources, it is deemed necessary to enact provisions aimin~ at ensuring the protection of the riches in the fish resour ces of the waters of Irian Jaya; Bearing in mind: 1• the Law N°4 Prp of 1960; 2. the Government regulations N°64 of 1957; 4. The decree of the President Nog of 1973; 5. " It N°44 of 1974; 6. " " N°45 of 1974; 7. The Minister af Agriculture's Decree NOO 1/Kpts/Um/11'1975; Enacts 1 Provision: the ~ablishment of the preservation of the riches found in the fish resources in the sea of Irian Jaya in the marine areas whose limits are the coasts of Irian Jaya and the straight lines connecting thefollowing points: 1• (O~hOO South latitude/141.00 East longitude) 2. (09.00 It /134.00 " 3. (05.00 It /134.00 " 4. (05.00 " /133.00 " 5. (01.00 " / 130.00 " 6. (01.00 " /131.20 " II Provision: The marine areas along the coasts of Irian Jaya and a~ound the islands inside the areas defined in thefirst provision herein, delimited by 10 m. isobaths, are declared out-of-bounds for all fishing activites conducted by means of trawlers. Decree N 2/1975 2 III Provision: In conducting prawn/fish catching in the areas of Irian Jaya defined in the first provision herein, it is prohibited to use: a. Pair trawlers; b. Purse traw1-nets with less than 3.0 cm. stretched meshes. IV Provision: The number of the vessels allowed to operate shall be fixed after the stock assessment of prawn/fish has been ascer tained on the 1st of April for each year activity. All details con cerning this assessment shall be regulated by the Director General of Fisheries.
