5. Commencement. No. 114] Fisheries 1 BELIZE: STATUTORY INSTRUMENT No. 114 of 2008 ____________ REGULATIONS made by the Minister responsible for Fisheries in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 13 of the Fisheries Act, Chapter 210 of the Substantive Laws of Belize, Revised Edition 2000- 2003; and all other powers thereunto him enabling. (Gazetted 18th October, 2008.) ____________
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Short title. HOL CHAN MARINE RESERVE (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS, 2008 and shall be read and construed as one with the Hol Chan S.I. 107/1988 Marine Reserve Regulations which are hereinafter referred to 113/1989 as the principal Regulations. 170/1994 101/1999 55/2003.
2. Regulation 7 of the principal Regulations is amended by Amendment of Regulation inserting after paragraph (b), the following 7. “(c) the use of gillnets and other types of nets, except cast nets, is prohibited within this Zone; (d) spear fishing is prohibited within this Zone.”
3. Regulation 8 of the principal Regulations is amended by Amendment of Regulation inserting after paragraph (b), the following 8. 3 Fisheries [No. 114 “(c) the use of gillnets and other types of nets,except cast nets, is prohibited within this Zone; (d) spear fishing is prohibited within this Zone.” Amendment 4. Regulation 8:01 of the principal Regulations is amended of Regulation by repealing sub-paragraph (i) of paragraph (b) and substitut- 8:01. ing the following. “(b) (i) special marker buoys shall demarcate the boundaries of the exclusive recreational area and this shall be comprised of all that area of reef and sea within Zone D and commonly known as “Shark Ray Alley” and “Amigos Del Mar Wreck” containing 0.5 sq. miles and also described as the area enclosed by the lines joining the 6 points having grid coordinates SE (1972129 N, 397018 E); S (1972544 N, 395271 E); T (1973314 N, 395522E); U (1973240 N, 395850 E); V (1972940 N, 397246 E); SE (1972129 N, 397018 E).” Commencement. 5. These Regulations shall come into force on signature. MADE by the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries this 16th day of October, 2008.
