Ask the research
No trade agreement between Peru and India is in force: an India-Peru trade agreement (with a critical-minerals chapter) has been under negotiation since at least 2024, with a 9th round in November 2025 and talks expected to resume mid-2026. Peruvian gold therefore enters India on ordinary terms (restricted import channel; 15% combined duty on bullion from 13 May 2026). India is Peru's largest gold destination by value (2024), and both sides' 2024 figures broadly agree.

Where practice departs from the law
What credible sources show happening that the law does not provide for.
The Peru module records 2026 reporting that shipments of illegally sourced Peruvian gold go mainly to refiners in India and the UAE, and a 5.31 kg bar bound for India seized in Puno on 31 Jul 2026 (see pe.tf-destinations-2026, pe.div-uif-flows). The official mirror figures for 2024 agree to within about 3% by value, so the laundering happens before export (paper origin), not as unrecorded trade on this leg.
Official guidanceResearcher's note: Mirror comparison is this researcher's arithmetic on Comtrade figures; the illegal-share claim rests on sources cited in the Peru module, not re-opened here.
