Resolution No. 1050 of 1958 on the extension of maritime zones

THE RESOLUTION OF THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED ARAB REPUBLIC RESOLUTION NR. 1050 FOR THE YEAR 1958 CONCERNING THE FATHOM EXPANSION The President After acknowledging the resolution issued on the 15th of January 1951, concerning the regional waters, which was modified by the President's resolutions Nr. 180 for 1958. And Article 17 of the Syrian Criminal Law of Legislation Nr. 148 dated 23/6/1949, And according to the suggestions of the Cabinet. Declares: Article 1: The United Arab Republic has the rights of control over the· depth of the sea and underneath it along the expansion line of the fathom outside the Republic's regional water to where the depth of the water reached around 200 m. or to what extends this depth within the limits of the line for exploiting the natural resources existing in the depth. Likewise the U.A.R. has the right of control over the fathom expansion in proportion to the islands of the U.A.R. ·, Provided that this would not interfere with the water characteristic which is higher than the areas that are existing on the high levels of the seas and would not interfere with the freedom of navigation in it and in the space over it. Article 2: The United Arab Republic, and not others, has the right to inquire and excavate and exploit all the natural mineral resources and other inanimated resources and likewise the living creatures from the kind which is found in the depth of the sea or underneath in the areas but are shown in the first item; and for its maintenance and its investment and to build around these establishments along the distance of 500 m. security areas in which to take guaranteed measures for its protection. Article 3: The confirmation of these rights which are mentioned above, in the last Article 2, and Article 1, or their application depend on the putting of the actual hand or typical on these areas or on the issuing of special declarations. Article 4: It is forbidden for any foreigner whether native or relative to make any exploitation of the natural resources which are shown above in the last two articles or excavation or inquiry about it or make any research work of any kind in the fathom expansion without decision or resolution from the President of the Republic.
