Proclamation to declare the Port Louis Fishing Reserve as a marine protected area and to designate it as a fishing reserve (No. 22 of 2000)

TO DECLARE THE PORT LOUIS FISHING RESERVE AS A MARINE PROTECTED AREA AND TO DESIGNATE IT AS A FISHING RESERVE Proclamation No. 22 of 2000 TO DECLARE THE PORT LOUIS FISHING RESERVE AS A MARINE PROTECTED AREA AND TO DESIGNATE IT AS A FISHING RESERVE CASSAM UTEEM President of the Republic CASSAMUTEEM – By Mr CASSAM UTEEM, Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean, President of the Republic of Mauritius. &C., &C., &C. WHEREAS by section 7(l) of the Fisheries and Marine Resources Act 1998, it is enacted to declare by Proclamation (a) an area of Mauritius waters including the seabed underlying such waters; (b) any land associated with Mauritius waters; or (c) any wetland to be a Marine Protected Area. WHEREAS by section 7(2) of the Fisheries and Marine Resources Act 1908, it is enacted that a Marine Protected Area may be designated as (a) a Fishing Reserve; (b) a Marine Park; or (c) a Marine Reserve. WHEREAS the Port Louis Fishing Reserve of an extent of 331 ha stretches from Martello Tower at Pointe aux Sables up to Fort Georges and is bounded as follows The limit starts from a point PLRL1 at Martello Tower having coordinates 994081mE, 1 003 386mN and runs along an imaginary line in a north easterly direction up to a point PLRL2 on the reef platform having coordinates 993 505mE, 1 004 562mN. From the last mentioned point the limit runs again along an imaginary line in a north easterly direction up to a point PLPL3 behind Fort George having coordinates 995 851mE, 1 005 5491mN and from that point the reserves limit the High Water Mark along the coastline up to the above mentioned point PLRL 1. WHEREAS the Port Louis Fishing Reserve fulfils the conditions specified in the said Act. NOW, THEREFORE, by virtue of the said Act, I proclaim and declare the Port Louis Fishing Reserve to be a Marine Protected Area and designate it as a Fishing Reserve to be known as the Port Louis Fishing Reserve as from 1st July 2000.
