Proclamation to declare the Black River Reserve as a marine protected area and to designate it as a fishing reserve (No. 27 of 2000)

TO DECLARE THE BLACK RIVER FISHING RESERVE AS A MARINE PROTECTED AREA AND TO DESIGNATE ITAS A FISHING RESERVE Proclamation No. 24 of 2000 TO DECLARE THE BLACK RIVER FISHING RESERVE AS A MARINE PROTECTED AREA AND TO DESIGNATE ITAS A FISHING RESERVE CASSAM UTEEM President of the Republic CASSAM UTEEM – By Mr CASSAM UTEEM, Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean, President of the Republic of Mauritius. &C., &C., &C. WHEREAS by section 7(l) of the Fisheries and Marine Resources Act 1998, it is enacted to declare by Proclamation (a) an area of Mauritius waters including the seabed underlying such waters; (b) any land associated with Mauritius waters; or (c) any wetland, to be a Marine Protected Area. WHEREAS by section 7(2) of the Fisheries and Marine Resources Act 1998, it is enacted that a Marine Protected Area may be designated as (a) a Fishing Reserve; (b) a Marine Park; or (c) a Marine Reserve. WHEREAS the Black River Fishing Reserve of an extent of 797 ha stretches from Petite Case Noyale up to Tamarin and is bounded as follows The limit starts at a point BRRL1 at Pointe des Requins having coordinates 983 145mE, 978022mN and runs along an imaginary line in a north westerly direction up to point BRRL2 on the reef at Grande Pointe having coordinates 980 778mE, 980 627mN. From the last mentioned point the limit runs again along an imaginary line in a north north easterly direction up to point BRRL3 at Pointe Lascars having coordinates 981 569mE, 982 584mN and from that point the limit follows the reef crest up to a point BRRL4 having coordinates 982 565mE, 984 309mN. From the last mentioned point the limit follows again an imaginary line in an easterly direction up to a point BRRL5 having coordinates 982690mE, 984262mN and from that point the limit follows the High Water Mark long the coast line up to point BRRL1. WHEREAS the Black River Fishing Reserve fulfills the conditions specified in the said Act. NOW THEREFORE, by virtue of the said Act, I do hereby proclaim and declare the Black River Fishing Reserve to be a Marine Protected Area and designate it as a Fishing Reserve to be known as the Black River Fishing Reserve as from 1 st July 2000.
