Act No. I of 2019 – An Act to amend the Sustainable Development Act, Cap. 521

A 3 I assent. (L.S.) MARIE-LOUISE COLEIRO PRECA President 1st February, 2019 ACT No. I of 2019 AN ACT to amend the Sustainable Development Act, Cap. 521. BE IT ENACTED by the President, by and with the advice and consent of the House of Representatives, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same as follows: Short title. Cap. 521. 1. The short title of this Act is the Sustainable Development (Amendment) Act 2019, and this Act shall be read and construed as one with the Sustainable Development Act, hereinafter referred to as "the principal Act". Amendment of article 2 of the principal Act. 2. Sub-article (2) of article 2 of the principal Act shall be substituted by the following: "(2) Within the context of the private sector and civil society, the purpose of this Act is to raise awareness of the principles of sustainable development and to foster increased participation of civil society as well as that of all social actors in main-streaming sustainable development.". VERŻJONI ELETTRONIKA A 4 Amendment of article 8 of the principal Act. 3. Article 8 of the principal Act shall be amended as follows: (a) paragraph (b) of sub-article (2) thereof shall be substituted by the following: "(b) a person having knowledge of, and experience in the Voluntary Organisations sector, appointed by the Minister;"; (b) immediately after paragraph (d) of sub-article (2) thereof there shall be added the following new paragraph (e): "(e) a person with knowledge of, and experience in environmental matters appointed by the Minister.". Amendment of article 9 of the principal Act. 4. Article 9 of the principal Act shall be amended as follows: (a) paragraph (b) of sub-article (2) thereof shall be substituted by the following: "(b) a deputy chairperson appointed by the Minister;"; (b) immediately after sub-article (3) thereof there shall be added the following new sub-article (4): "(4) The Network shall endeavour to set up a number of sub-committees that can promote the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development and that shall consist of representatives of the social partners, actors and those with a specific interest in the area.".
