Sri Lanka Electricity (Amendment) Act, No.16 of 2022

1. This Act may be cited as the Sri Lanka Electricity Short title (Amendment) Act, No.16 of 2022.

2. Section 8 of the Sri Lanka Electricity Act, No. 20 of Replacement of 2009 (hereinafter referred to as the “principal enactment”) is section 8 of Act, No. 20 of hereby repealed and the following section substituted 2009 therefor:- “participating 8. Section 9 of the principal enactment is hereby Amendment of amended as follows:- section 9 of the principal enactment (1) by the repeal of subsection (1) thereof and the substitution therefor of the following:- “(1) Any person shall be eligible to apply for the issue of a generation licence to generate electricity.”; and (2) by the repeal of subsection (1A) thereof.

4. Section 43 of the principal enactment is hereby Amendment of amended as follows:- section 43 of the principal enactment (1) by the repeal of subsection (3) thereof ; and 2 Sri Lanka Electricity (Amendment) Act, No. 16 of 2022 (2) in the proviso to subsection (4) thereof- (a) by the substitution for the words “any existing generation plant that is being developed:–”, of the words “any existing generation plant that is being developed or to be developed–”; and (b) in paragraph (a) thereof by the substitution for the words “to be operated at least cost;”, of the words “to be operated at least cost; or”.
