Order of the Government of Maharashtra restricting the use of fishing gear and certain mechanized fishing vessels in specified areas (No.FDX-1481/22167/181/12-ADF)

No.FDX-1481/22167/181/12-ADF :- In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 4 of the Maharashtra Marine Fishing Regulation Act,1981 (Mah,LIV of 1981), the Government of Maharashtra having regard to the matters referred to in sub-section (2) of the said section 4 and, after consultation with the Advisory Committees constituted under section 3 of the said Act, hereby directs, (i) that no mechanized fishing vessel of any type with more than six cylinder engines shall be operated for fishing within the territorial waters of the State of Maharashtra; (ii) that no fishing vessel fitted with more than three cylinder engines shall use gill nets for fishing within the territorial waters of Thane District; (iii) That non mechanized fishing vessel shall be operated in any area in the sea for catching any fish or crustacean, viz. prawns, crabs and lobsters in any year during the period commencing on the 1 st June and ending on Narali Paurnima day; (iv) That the trawl gear shall not be used by mechanized fishing vessels in the following areas, namely (a) From the sea-shore to 5 fathoms, depth zone off Thane, Bombay Suburban, City of Bombay and Raigad District and off the area between Bankot and Burondi in Ratnagiri District ; (b) From the sea-shore to 10 fathoms depth zone off the area South of Burondi in Ratnagiri District and off Sindhudurg District. (v) that the mechanized fishing vessels shall not operate trawl gear between 6.p.m. and 6.a.m. in any area in the sea.
