'{{. 28- 12/2008-~ - 3] ~.-.t.~ •• fflcf NOTIFICATION New Delhi, the 30th September, 2009 S.O. 2526(E).-In exercise of the powers conferred by Section 38 of the Biological Diversity Act, 2002 (I 8 of 2003), the Central Government, in consultation with the Government of Meghalaya, hereby notifies the species of plants and animals which are on the verge of extinction, as listed in column (2) of the Table below, for the State of Meghalaya, namely: TABLE SI.No. Name of the Species {I) (2) Plants I. Nymphaea tetragonal Georgi Animals I. Rhinoceros sondaicus Desmarest, 1822 2. Gyps bengalensis (Gmelin, 1788) 3. Gyps tenuirostris Gray, 1844 4. Sarcogyps calvus (Scopoli, 1786) 5. Philautus shillongensis Pillai & Chanda, 1973 2. The collection of the species of plants and animals listed in column (2) of the Table shall be prohibited, except . with the approval of the Meghalaya State Biodiversity Board only for the purposes mentioned below, namely :~ (a) scientific research; (b) herbarium and museum of scientific and academic institutions; (c) propagation; and (d) any other scientific investigation. 3.. The Meghalaya State Biodiversity Board shall undertake (i) studies on all aspects -of the notified species for holistic understanding; (ii) propagation of the notified species for the purp9se of in situ and ex situ conservation and rehabilitation ; and (iii) awareness programmes and provide educational materials on notified species for forest department · personnel, Biodiversity Management Committees, ecotourism programmes, and forest dwellers and tribals.
