These cited as Agricultural Regulations, regulations may be the National Research Institute 1993. 2. There is hereby established an institute which shall be known as the National Agricultural Research Institute referred to in these regulations as II the Institute". FUnctions Research Agenda Appointment of Director General Duties of Director General 4. (1) The Institute shall carry out applied research . in the following areas (a) agronomy; (b) livestock; (c) forestry; and (d) Natural Resources (2) W-ithout prejudice to subsection (1) the Institute may carry out other research activities assigned to it by the Board, non-government organisations and private farmers which may be coveniently carried out · · with the research area.!:l specified in subsection (1) s • The main research programme ,f the Institute shall be based :m programmes formulated by the ~oard, which shall be reviewed by :he Research Committee of the ~oard prior to their Lmplementation. 6. The head of the Institute shall be a Director General in accordance with section 4 of the Act. 7 . The Director General shall be the administrative head of the Institute and shall ·be responsible for organising, co ordinating and supervising all research. activities being undertaken by the Institute. The Director General may be removed from office on the grounds of misconduct, inefficiency or other good cause. 9. (1) . The Board shall appoint other qualified and suitable persons to the staff of the Institute. (2) The Board may make rules for the discipline and dismissal of such staff. 10. All research carried on by the Institute shall be properly documented and subject to ;,eriodic • review by the Research ~ommittee of the Board. 11. The institute shall disseminate information on the outcome of its research to the public in forms that are readily understandable by different groups within the society. 12.(1) The Institute shall initially be fµnded by the Board. (2) Notwithstanding subsection (1) the Institute may generate its own funds through (a) research contracts; (b) grants, donations and endowments made to the Institute; (c) subventions from The Gambia Government which shall be channelled 284 Bank Account Accounts and Audit Board to power to terminate research (d) funds from non .. g o v e r n m e n t organisations and the private sector. 13. The funds of the Institute shall be kept in a bank appointed by the Board. 14.(1) The Institute shall keep and maintain proper books of account. (2) The Institute . shall at the end of each financial year prepare statements of income and expenditure during the previous financial year and of its assets and liabilities, which shall be submitted to the Board for consideration. (3) A firm of auditors shall be appointed by the Board at the end of each financial year to audit the books of account of the Institute and the financial statements issued under subsection (2). 15 .
